Tuesday 29th. August, Low Vegas Studios, Renishaw
Out in the serene setting of Low Common, the bedroom of guitarist Jason Wood has been turned into a recording studio where we re-mixed a collection of various live recordings by Dave and The Cruisers and put them together on a 10-track compilation titled 'Recorded Live - Presumed Missing'. The tracks cover a 14 year period and include three cuts by The Cruisers. After sweating over the tracks for some hours we eventually achieved a satisfactory mix and got copies produced in time for the tour.
Saturday, 2nd. September, Playhouse, Alnwick
The start of this years 60's Night Out tour along with our musical chums Mike Pender's Searchers, namely, Mike Jr., Baz and Keith. The tour kicked off somewhat erratic as the first night was up in Alnwick, Northumberland whilst the second night is way down in Christchurch, near Bournemouth! (who booked these dates, Stevie Wonder?!). Anyway Alnwick wasn't such a long drive (about 3 hours) and we arrived around 4.45pm to find Mike and Co. already there. It was a very pleasant surprise to discover that the show was sold out and we looked forward to a good show. It was also good to see a poster advertising a show starring the great Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers, who we hadn't seen on the 60's circuit for the last three or four years.
For these first two nights my son Chris would be playing second guitar and as usual did a sterling job. The audience certainly warmed to our set, in fact the whole show and it turned out a most enjoyable opening night. After the intermission we packed our stuff and headed back south , arriving back in Sheffield at the civilised time of 11.50pm.
Sunday, 3rd. September, Regent Centre, Christchurch
A longer drive this time, around 4hours, but the weather was fine and sunny, making the trip a little more pleasant. Once again Mike and Co. were already setting up and sound-checking. Thoughtfully, the venue had provided a very much appreciated spread of sandwiches for us all, something that unfortunately doesn't happen all the time. Once again, it was a good attendance and a most receptive audience, although, apparently, Christchurch boasts(?) the largest population of OAP's, so that's possibly the reason we had such a good crowd!, although I hasten to add, you're never to old to rock'n'roll! In the interval, we were swamped with people all clamouring for CD's, etc. We even sold some copies of the new live CD we've put together (see elsewhere) and we could even see it going rubber (as opposed to platinum) by the end of the tour!
