Friday June 8th.The
Pavillion, Whitby
A return to this great seaside resort for the twice-yearly 60’s Weekender. The heavy sea-mist has thankfully disappeared upon our arrival and it turns out to be a nice sunny evening. Inside the venue the place is packed with good folk all determined to enjoy some 60’s music which I guess is now become quite traditional as the years pass. An early evening drink with my son Chris, who is overseeing the sound on this occasion, and good friends Judith and Cliff Tibbetts as we see quite a few more familiar faces. The only draw-back is that we’re not scheduled to go on until 11.00pm and the following morning, Chris and I are at my daughter’s wedding at 9.30am!
Still, we can do it and onstage it’s another blast of 60’s pop, r&b and rock’n’roll which always seems to be a winning combination, of course together with Dave’s mystical stage-act. Finishing the set, it’s a quick change and off into the night back home as we look forward to a great day tomorrow.
Friday 20th. July Wesley Centre, Maltby
Back to an area where Dave and the original Cruisers used to play regularly around 1961. The venue then was the Queens Hotel which is still there after a quick look-in it now resembles that bar in Star Wars.
The venue where we are tonight actually replaces The Rockingham, Wentworth where Dave rocks annually. The venue itself has been converted from what looks like an old Wesleyan Chapel and is ideally set out as a live music venue, under the auspices of promoter Rob Shaw.
Although the weather continues to soak Britain to the core, we enjoy a full house who certainly get into a rockin’ mood as we go through the set. After our Summer break, we soon back into the swing of things and I guess rock’n’rollin’ is just like riding a bike, just make sure the saddle doesn’t come off! Good to have Tony Marchetta, Johnny’s Dad, in charge of our radiofonics on this gig and doing a good job to boot.
